By Correspondent

MANGALDAI, July 10 - Osman Molla (50), a pharmacist at the Kharupetia Primary Health Centre, last posted at the Naamati Sub Health Centre under the Daipam Police Outpost, was arrested recently in connection with the illegal collection of several lakhs of rupees against false promises of appointment in the Assam Police.

A case (No. 595/15 U/S 420/468/471 IPC) has been registered at the Mangaldai Sadar Police Station on the basis of a complaint from a victim of the fake appointment racket.

Darrang SP Vivek Raj Singh informed the media here that on receiving complaints about the functioning of a notorious racket, which duped job seekers of several lakhs of rupees on false promises of providing regular jobs in the Assam Police including those of sub-inspector, assistant sub-inspector, office junior assistant, etc., he ordered an investigation. Some incriminating documents including fake appointment letters, lists of selected candidates, etc., were recovered from the possession of the government service holder, which led to his arrest, the SP added.

The racketeers reportedly forged signatures of higher officers of the Assam Police, including that of the Deputy Inspector General of Assam Police, CM Security, Dispur. A few other members of the racket, who identified themselves as deputy superintendents of police and sub-inspectors, are still absconding and a search operation is on to nab them, said the police.
