Govt must ensure accord implementation: Daimary

By R Dutta Choudhury

GUWAHATI, Feb 6 - The State and Central Governments must work together to ensure that the accord signed with four factions of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) and the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) is implemented in letter and spirit, said the chairman of the NDFB (R ) , Ranjan Daimary. He also said that there should not be any division among the Bodos and non-Bodos living in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

Talking to The Assam Tribune, Daimary said that the accord would bring the desired development in the BTR area if the Central and State Governments play their parts to ensure proper implementation of all the clauses of the Accord. He also said that all the Bodo parties and groups should unite for the success of the accord.

Daimary was the founder chairman of the NDFB and later, the outfit split into four groups. Moreover, at one point of time, the ABSU and NDFB did not see eye to eye. But Daimary said that everyone has learnt from the past and we are trying to work together for the development of the BTR through successful implementation of the accord.

Replying to a question, the NDFB leader said that the outfit would be disbanded within one month. But he is yet to decide whether he would join electoral politics. Daimary was convicted for the serial blasts in different parts of the State including three blasts in Guwahati on October 30, 2008 and he was released on bail for four weeks to pave the way for signing of the accord. His bail term will end on February 20 and he is planning to apply for extension of the bail term. He, along with all his colleagues and cadres will attend the rally to be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kokrajhar tomorrow.

On reports of apprehension among non Bodo people living in the BTR, Daimary asserted that they are not against any community. All Indian citizens living in the BTR should get the fruits of development and equal rights, he said. He also appealed to all sections of people living in the BTR to maintain peace and harmony. We have crossed the first hurdle by signing an accord with the Government and the final goal will be reached when all the clauses of the accord are implemented in letter and spirit for the overall development of the area, he added.
