Govt move on Citizenship Bill peeves ACKHSA

By Staff Correspondent

SILCHAR, July 20 - Dismayed with the manner in which the much talked-about Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 was not placed in the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament, the All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students Association (ACKHSA) has demanded the Government to get the Bill placed during the winter session.

We are not against the NRC and want that an error-free list should be given for the people of the State. However, the discrepancies and the fickle change of modalities is spreading panic among the people, which is uncalled for. We do not understand what stopped the Bill to be discussed in the monsoon session, said Rupam Nandi Purakaystha, chief adviser of the students body.

Nandi Purakaystha added that all eyes are now on publication of the second draft list on July 30. If genuine Indian citizens are faced with injustice, there will be a massive protest in the days ahead, the student leader forewarned.
