Govt flayed over failure to ensure scribes security

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Nov 14 - The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) today staged a silent protest near the Dighalipukhuri here criticising the State government for its failure to ensure the safety and security of journalists in the State.

The protest was organised under the aegis of the AJP Kamrup Samity and the Jatiya Yuba Parishad, the youth wing of the party.

Demanding a thorough probe into the death of Kakopathar-based senior journalist Parag Bhuyan, the AJP stated that the ruling BJP, which leaves no opportunity to criticise other non-BJP governments over the attack on media and journalists, should first ensure that the journalists in Assam are safe and can report all kinds of scams and anomalies freely without being threatened.

The newly-formed regional party has alleged that there is a political angle in the killing of Parag Bhuyan as he was reporting against a politically well-connected cartel.

From the AJP, Adip Kumar Phukan and Abhijit Kamal Bhuyan addressed the protesters over the issue.
