Govt employee held on molestation charges

NALBARI, Jan 4 - An employee of the State Revenue Department in Nalbari district was arrested by the police on charges of molestation of, and assault on a minor girl on January 1. The arrested employee has been identified as Tridip Barman (32), who has been serving as a lat mandal at the Pachim Nalbari Revenue Circle Office in Chamata.

The police have also picked up four other youths for interrogation in this connection. They have been identified as Pulakesh Das, Plaban Das, Pankaj Das, who is an employee of the GMCH, and Rajib Kalita � all hailing from Ghograpara area.

Barman was arrested from his residence at Ghograpara on Thursday. A case (No. 7/19 under Section 354 of the IPC read with Section 8 of the POCSO Act, 2012) has been registered at the Nalbari PS. He was produced in the court today, which sent him to judicial custody in the Nalbari District Jail. The police have also seized the vehicle (AS 14 F 1072) used by the accused.

The arrest followed after the father of the molested girl reported the incident � which occurred at a roadside eatery near Borjhar in the Barama area � to Additional DGP (Administration) Dr LR Bishnoi and Additional DGP (Security) Harmit Singh. Accordingly, the two senior officers instructed Nalbari SP Shiladitya Chetia to nab the alleged culprits.
