Govt employee held for taking bribe

SILCHAR, March 28 - In a major breakthrough, a nine-member team of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Government of Assam nabbed Atashi Dutta Tarafdar, senior assistant at the District Election Office, Cachar while taking bribe from a person inside her office chamber on Thursday.

According to inside sources at the District Administration, the lady official had demanded cash of Rs 95,000 from Sujit Chanda, owner of a printing press in Silchar for clearing his bill of Rs 2.5lakh. It is learnt that based on a complaint made by Sujit, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption team caught the official while taking Rs 30,000 in cash.

Sources said that Tarafdar has been booked under case number 4/2019 under section 7(A) of Prevention of Corruption Act,1988 and the team is interrogating the accused at her office.
