Govt earned Rs 800 cr from sale of liquor

GUWAHATI, July 23 - The State government has earned revenue to the tune of almost Rs 800 crore in 2015-16 from sale of liquor.

In a written reply to a question by BJP MLA Padma Hazarika in the Legislative Assembly on Friday, Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya said that Rs 799.53 crore was earned as total revenue and of that Rs 777.57 crore was from foreign liquor IMFL.

The revenue from sale of liquor went up in 2015-16 as compared to 2014-15 when it had stood at Rs 665.82 crore and 2013-14 when it was Rs 616.42 crore.

The minister said that sale of country spirit had risen from 53,65,911 LPL in 2014-15 to 74,18,829 LPL in 2015-16.

However, sale of IMFL fell to 3,88,54,044 LPL in 2015-16 from 4,90,74,309 LPL in 2014-15, while that of beer also went down to 1,50,58,507 BL in 2015-16 compared to 2,48,15,353 BL.
