Govt doctor among 55 new COVID-19 cases in Tripura

AGARTALA, June 7 - Fifty-five more persons, including a government doctor, have tested positive for COVID-19 in Tripura.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said out of total 1125 samples tested, 55 samples, mostly of returnees from outside the State, were found positive last night.

It took the total number of COVID-19 cases in the State to 750.

A government doctor, who had conducted COVID-19 tests on returnees from Bangladesh, was tested positive. Soon after the development, all health workers involved in screening at Akhaura check post were identified. Official sources said the doctor has been sent to the Saheed Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel Covid Care Centre for treatment. This is for the first time a doctor was tested positive in the State, which caused panic among frontline health workers.

Some areas of Dukli and Hezamara RD Blocks of West Tripura district have been declared as containment and buffer zones.

Matinagar Dakshin Para, Noyapara, Brajendranagar of Dukli RD Block in West Tripura district were declared containment zone by District Magistrate Dr Sandeep N Mahatme last night.

Chachu Bazar, Khamperpara, Ramhari Para, Subalgarh Para, Bargachiapara, Oyaboyasapara, Shivjoypara, Esraipara and Saratchandrapara of Hezamara RD Block in Mohanpur subdivision have also been declared as containment and buffer zones.

As per the guideline, the entire containment zone has been sealed. Besides, an area of one-km radius from the containment zone was notified as buffer zone.
