GUWAHATI, Aug 14 - The State government has directed private educational institutions from pre-primary level up to Class XII to waive off 25 per cent of the fee from May, for imparting education to the students, till the formal and physical opening of educational institutions.

In an order, the education department said due to the COVID-19 lockdown, income of all the citizens has been badly affected and they are not in a position to afford payment of school fees.

Due to closure of classes, the educational institutions are saving substantial expenditures on various heads, like energy charges, fuel cost, maintenance, consumables, reduction in cost of organising events and other variable costs. It is expected that these educational institutions will stand behind the parents and guardians to minimize their miseries, the order stated.

The government is of the opinion that there has to be a fee concession of a minimum of 25 per cent of the monthly fees for the students studying in the schools and colleges from pre-primary to Class XII during the period with effect from May 1 till the formal and physical opening of the institutions.
