Govt committed to preserve rights of Tiwas, other ethnic groups: CM

MORIGAON, Dec 14 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the BJP-led State government is committed to preserve the rights of Tiwas and other ethnic groups of Assam as per Constitutional provisions.

Addressing a huge Tiwa Autonomous Council election meeting here today, Sonowal said that his government during the last four years did maximum developmental works for the Tiwas and other tribal groups of Assam and added that the interests of Tiwas and other ethnic groups of the State are secured under the BJP.

The Chief Minister said that the language and culture of Tiwas have been preserved at the initial stage by the Cultural department of his government and now the families of Tiwa kings are being given pension. The old kingdoms like Gobha, Nellie Khola, Sukhanagug, Tetelia have many cultural traditions and historical sites which will be preserved by the BJP-led government, the Chief Minister added.

Sonowal said that BJP has a clear-cut vision and mission for all-round development of tribal people of Assam. And to achieve this mission, BJP will have to win the Tiwa Autonomous Council election.

Addressing the gathering, Pijush Hazarika came down heavily against the Congress party and its Nagaon Member of Parliament Pradyut Bordoloi and said that Congress will be rooted out in the Tiwa council poll. He denied the allegation made by Pradyut Bordoloi that serious corruption cases were reported in Pijush Hazarika�s Urban Development department. The meeting was also addressed by Morigaon MLA Ramakanta Deori and Batadrava MLA Angoorlata Deka.
