Govt call to reduce school fees for April hailed

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 24 - Welcoming the State governments suggestion to the private school authorities to reduce school fees by 50 per cent for the month of April in view of the ongoing lockdown, and also to pay full salary to the teaching and non-teaching staff, the Guardian Association of Private/Public Undertaking School Students today said that the government should also activate the fee regulatory commission and monitor the activities of the schools.

Since 2014, we have been raising a number of issues concerning private schools in matters of unreasonable fee hike, huge weight of school bags, change in textbooks, etc., and calling for streamlining the same. A PIL is also pending on these issues in the Gauhati High Court. We urge the government to keep a constant watch on these issues, it said in a statement.
