Govt-ADB talks on erosion projects

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, Oct 20 The loan negotiation between the Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on the Dibrugarh and Palasbari sub-projects of the ADB assisted Assam Integrated Flood and River bank erosion management programme has been completed.

The estimated cost of the Dibrugarh sub project is Rs 95.79 crore, while, that of the Palasbari sub project is Rs 81.99 crore, said highly placed State Water Resources Department (WRD) sources here.

Sources maintained that due to the non receipt of no objection certificate (NOC) from the State Forest Department, the Rs 19.90 crore worth Kaziranga (Bonkowal) sub project could not be taken up for negotiation.

The Dibrugarh sub project has proposed raising and strengthening of the Dibrugarh town protection dyke and bank protection with geo bags in a stretch of around three kilometer, while, the Gumi-Palasbari sub project has the provision of only bank protection with geo bags and boulder in a five kilometer stretch.
