Governor�s award for Tulsi plantations

DERGAON, Oct 23 - Ranu Hazarika, Papori Bora and Mala Goswami got the first three positions respectively for Governor�s Award for Tulsi planatation in the AASHRAY Tulsi Plantation Contest.

They will receive the Yoga Guru Saint Patanjali Award, Astronomer and Scientist Aryabhatta Award and Ayurvedic Surgeon Sushruta Award which have been instituted by the Governor of Assam with the nature organisation AASHRAY as the nodal agency for the three best Tulsi plantations from this year. The awards, which will be conferred by the Governor at a function to be held at the Rajbhavan on October 27, will carry a cash of Rs 5000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 respectively along with a citation each.

The name of the awardees were declared at a function held at the Dergaon Sports Association, chaired by Biren Ch Saikia and moderated by Sanjoy Kr Hazarika. The meeting inaugurated by Atul Ch Mahanta was attended by Bodheswar Kakoti as the guest of honour. A lecture on �Kati Bihu and its rituals� was delivered by Charu Prasad Sarmah. Social worker, Atul Goswami and Dr Khireswar Loying also spoke on the occasion.

In the meeting, the top ten participants of AASHRAY�s Tulsi Plantation Contest held on October 18 and 19 were given certificates. A total of 68 participants took part in the contest where from field observation and personal interviews, a total of ten participants were selected. They were Ranu Hazarika, Papori Bora, Mala Goswami, Manju Kalita, Monoj Bora, Gautomi Hazarika, Pranita Kalita, Aakanksha Hazarika, Nitumoni Saikia and Jyotisman Hazarika. Charu Prasad Sarmah, Dr Monoj Jyoti Hazarika, Kalpana Bora Dutta, Pradip Bora, Jiban Hazarika, Bichitra Bhusan Kalita, Chida Pathak, Nironjan Haloi, Paban Bora and Pradip Bora were the judges. The meeting ended with vote of thanks offered by Sashi Gohain.
