Governor visits relief camps in Dhubri district

DHUBRI, July 20 - Governor Jagdish Mukhi on Saturday afternoon visited relief camps in Gauriupur and Dhubri to inspect the facilities provided by the administration.

The Governor, visited the PC High School at Gauripur and BC Memorial School and Govt Girls School at Dhubri and interacted with the inmates living in these camps since the onset of the recent flood. The Governor also directed the Deputy Commissioner to send back those inmates to their houses, if flood water has decreased to a liveable level. He also directed the administration to provide relief items and medicines to these inmates in their houses.

Talking to the media, the Governor expressed his satisfaction towards the contribution of Dhubri administration during the flood. But the people have complained that the administration cleaned up and provided enough relief only to camps which the Governor visited and is paying no heed to most of the relief camps of the district.

Mukhi also stressed on conducting a scientific study of Assam flood, for a permanent solution. �Nothing will happen even if Assam Flood is declared as a Natural Disaster. This natural calamity can be curbed only by using scientific methods. He further said, �For this, a coordination committee of all the departments has already been set up. Here experts will not only study the main reasons of flood, but will also coordinate with the neighbouring states and countries like China and Bhutan, to find out some solution to floods in Assam�.

The Governor also sat in a meeting with the officials of district administration and head of various departments and directed them to take all the necessary steps to curb the after flood effects and provide proper relief. He also said that the State Government has enough funds and resources to provide all kinds of relief to the flood victims.

Our Gauripur Correspondent adds: Prof Jagadish Mukhi, Governor of Assam visited the relief camps at Gauripur today and took stock of the measures taken to provide relief materials.

He visited the relief camp at PC Institution where more than 1200 flood-affected people of the adjoining areas of Gauripur are taking shelter. Earlier, on his arrival, the chairperson of Gauripur Town Committee Jimli Dutta and Reba Ray, principal of the institution received him with honour and dignity. Talking to media persons, the Governor said that the government will ensure proper measures for the supply of relief materials to the inmates of the camps and their rehabilitation. The Governor was accompanied by the DC, Dhubri and other senior officials of the district. He later left for Dhubri to take stock of the overall flood situation of the district.
