Governor urges Jahnu to make film on Lachit

GUWAHATI, March 5 - Governor PB Acharya has urged filmmaker Jahnu Baruah to make a film on the heroic exploits of legendary Assamese general Lachit Barphukan.

The Governor, who is a connoisseur of fine arts, held a long discussion with Baruah on Assamese films and theatre this morning.

Earlier on Friday evening, the Governor had gone to inaugurate the North East Theatre Festival at Rabindra Bhawan and had the opportunity of watching a play on Lachit Barphukan. He was greatly inspired by the performances of the actors and the characters on the acts of patriotism, bravery and remarkable qualities of leadership of the great general.

�The Governor was so influenced by the acts of valour of Lachit Barphukan that he invited Jahnu Baruah for breakfast this morning to discuss at length the great deeds of the general and the possibilities of Baruah�s making a film on the great hero of Assam,� an official release said.

The Governor impressed upon Baruah the need and importance of making a good film on Lachit Barphukan for the sake of the present generation of youths. He said that the film would be enlightening not only to the Assamese movie-goers but also to the movie-goers of the nation. He added that the valiant deeds of Lachit Barphukan should be made known to the people of the entire nation and to the world at large.
