Governor unveils life-size statue of Swami Vivekananda

GUWAHATI, Jan 12 - Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi today unveiled a life-size statue of Swami Vivekananda at St Vivekananda English Academy (SVEA), Maligaon, on the occasion of the silver jubilee celebrations of the school.

The occasion coincided with the National Youth Day commemorating the 156th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The statue is a work of renowned sculptor Nuruddin Ahmed.

The celebrations christened �Witness, 25 Years of Wisdom� were kicked off by the Governor with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp.

The guests of honour included Gauhati Vice Chancellor Dr Mridul Hazarika; RC Jain, chairman SVEA; Rajiv Rajvanshi, Principal Chief Engineer NF Railway; Kamaljyoti Gogoi, Secretary AHSEC; Buli Gogoi Bhuyan, Inspector of Schools, Kamrup (M) and Chaitanya Leela Das, monk and TEDx speaker.

The Governor, in his speech, lauded the SVEA fraternity and hoped that in the coming years the students would work more vigorously towards the school�s motto �Wisdom, assimilation and progress through purity, peace and perseverance�. Principal of the school Mitra Som Saha felicitated the dignitaries.

The students of the school presented a colourful dance programme �Rhythm of Unity� which depicted the cultural flavours of different parts of India.

As a green initiative, SVEA has pledged a large-scale plantation drive in its 25th year. The plantation programme was started today by planting of a sapling by Mumbai-based Chaitanya Leela Das who also delivered a commemorative lecture on standing out and making a difference.

A documentary highlighting the institution�s journey of 25 years was also screened.

On behalf of the alumni body of SVEA, Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Assistant Operations Manager, Guwahati, Ministry of Indian Railways, dwelt on the social responsibilities that the association wants to discharge in the near future.

A beautiful live painting of Swamiji by noted speed artist Rabin Bar enthralled the guests. A blood donation camp was inaugurated by Rajiv Rajvanshi.
