GUWAHATI, April 25 - Governor Banwarilal Purohit released the cover page of She Can Smile, a multi-lingual anthology � a collection of short stories and poems � in 200 regional, national and international languages, at a function held at the Raj Bhavan here today.
The book, which will have stories and poems in almost all the languages of the country and the globe, is being compiled by Apuraj Barooah. The cover page of the book has also been conceived and designed by him.
Speaking at the event, Purohit said, �She Can Smile is a testament to the power of women in our country and across the globe where the woman writers contributed to give shape to the book.� He also hailed the efforts of Apuraj Barooah for taking the initiative of bringing all the woman writers and poets to the fore and weaving together their creativity through She Can Smile. The book would definitely be a source of inspiration for the womenfolk to come forward and contribute to the promotion and growth of literature, he said.
Purohit also termed the initiative an �exchange of literature through smiles� which, according to him, would strengthen the bond of friendship and camaraderie among the people living across different geographical entities. He also said that a nation can tread the path of progress only when its womenfolk smile and be the reason for others to smile.
Lauding Apuraj Barooah for his step of compiling the book, Purohit said, �Let the book be the catharsis of expressing the literary emotions of different nations, especially Assam and a tool for spreading smiles throughout the globe.�
It may also be mentioned that almost 100 female writers from Assam and the North East have contributed in various regional languages to the book.
Lorelea Hayden from USA, Saddy Palio from Spain, Indika Ranatunge from Sri Lanka, Archana Dalal from Maharashtra, Indu Basumotary in Boro, Urmilla Wakhet in Singpho, Maya Rani in Nepali, Bornali Sarma, Dr Nilakshi Borgohain and many more from Assam have contributed for the proposed anthology.
Deputy Commissioner Kamrup (M) Dr M Angamuthu and other dignitaries were also present at the event.
