Governor Mukhi takes stock of covid-19 scenario

GUWAHATI, March 16 - Governor Professor Jagdish Mukhi today took stock of the situation in the State in the wake of the threat posed by coronavirus.

Reviewing the situation at a meeting held with the officials of Health and Family Welfare and Disaster Management in the conference hall of Raj Bhavan, the Governor asked Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Samir Sinha, to push ASHA functionaries on duties to undertake a door-to-door visit and report to the Health department for any suspected case.

He also stressed the need of using the services of health activists to generate mass awareness in the State.

Principal Secretary Sinha said that although no suspected cases have yet been detected in the State, the Health department is ready to face any contingency. ��

Mission Director National Health Mission Dr Lakshmanan S gave a power-point presentation on the present situation of coronavirus in the country and informed the Governor that the Health Mission is working in convergence with the Health department to make people aware of the disease and the precautions to be taken to neutralise the risk of infection.

Taking stock of the facilities being put in place at the designated hospitals, the Governor emphasised the need to adopt the best and viable practices for the management of novel coronavirus (nCOVID-19) in Assam. He also laid stress on maintaining sound personal hygiene and other standard protocols to keep the virus infection away.

Dr Mukhi also asked the officials concerned to put their men and materials on duty for encouraging the people around to adopt adequate precautions. He further stated that everyone should work in unison to tackle the situation.

Principal Secretary to Health and Family Welfare Samir Kumar Sinha, Mission Director, National Health Mission Dr Lakshmanan S, Commissioner and Secretary, Health and Family Welfare (AYUSH) Monalisa Goswami, Commissioner and Secretary, ASDMA MS Manivannan, Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor SS Meenakshi Sundaram and other senior officers of the government were present at the meeting.
