GUWAHATI, Aug 3 The All Koch Rajbongshi Students Union has demanded that Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi adopt a positive attitude towards the demands of the Koch Rajbongshi community and arrange for a tripartite meeting on the issue. Meanwhile, the Students Union today had a discussion on its demands with Governor JB Patnaik.
President of the Union, Biswajit Roy said the Governor invited a delegation of the Union for a discussion on the issue. The student body submitted a memorandum to Patnaik enlisting its demands for creation of a separate state of Kamatapur and granting of ST status to the Koch Rajbongshi community.
Roy said the Government violated the terms of the agreement signed on August 28, 1949 following which the Kamatapur state was included in India. But the Governments of India, Assam and West Bengal played divide and rule politics to divide the state. We are only demanding that the agreement should be implemented properly and a separate state of Kamatapur should be created, he added.
