Governor, CM extend Magh Bihu greetings

GUWAHATI, Jan 13 - Governor PB Acharya has greeted the people of Assam on the occasion of Magh Bihu.

In his message to the people, the Governor said Bihu symbolizes the spirit of integrity, brotherhood and camaraderie among all the people of the Brahmaputra and Barak valleys of Assam irrespective of caste, creed, religion or language.

This epitomizes the highest example of the spirit of unity amidst diversity, he added. �It is a festival of feasting, dancing, music and songs and of the expression of love and mutual respect,� he said.

�On the happy occasion of Bhogali Bihu, I appeal to the people of Assam to strengthen their bond of unity and amity by spreading the message of love and mutual reverence and ensure the maintenance of peace and order throughout the State,� the Governor said.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also extended Bhogali Bihu and Tusu Puja wishes to the people. In his message, the Chief Minister said that the Bhogali festivities symbolise community goodwill and bonhomie, and that the festive spirit would cement the ties of brotherhood and fraternity among the masses, cutting across the lines of religion and creed.

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has wished the people a happy Bhogali Bihu. APCC president Anjan Dutta said in a statement that the Bihu festivities would strengthen the age-old bond of amity and solidarity among the people.

The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has also extended its wishes to the people for Bhogali Bihu. In a message, AGP president Atul Bora said that the festival would enhance the spirit of bonhomie and camaraderie among diverse sections of the people.

The AIUDF also wished the people a happy Bhogali Bihu. In a statement, AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal said that the festival would usher in peace, friendship and amity among the masses.
