Governor celebrates Diwali with BSF jawans

SILCHAR, Oct 27 - Governor of Assam Prof Jagdish Mukhi celebrated Diwali with the jawans and officials of Border Security Force at the Indo-Bangla international border in Karimganj district on Sunday.

As a part of his one-day visit to the border town, the Governor who came along with his wife participated in the Diwali celebrations with the BSF officials at the Sutarkandi BOP. Interestingly, officers from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were also invited for goodwill exchange as a part of the festival.

�Our jawans guard our borders so that we can celebrate Diwali and other festivals safely in our homes. Hence, it was my wish to come and celebrate Diwali with the jawans. I convey my wishes to the jawans and also to the people of the State on the occassion of Diwali and hope the festival of lights usher in prosperity and peace in our lives,� the Governor said.

Later, the Governor also visited the trade centre at Sutarkandi and took stock of the centre.
