JORHAT, Oct 15 - Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has appealed to the members of the State Tea Morcha of BJP, Assam Pradesh, to interact with tea garden workers and their families at the estates across Assam and take feedbacks from them regarding the series of welfare schemes and projects undertaken by the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in the State. Sonowal urged the Tea Morcha members to submit a report to him and State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass within a month regarding the outcome of the welfare steps taken by the government for tea tribes.
The Chief Minister made the appeal to the members of the Tea Morcha on Thursday while speaking on the inaugural day of the two-day executive meeting of the party�s Assam Pradesh Tea Morcha at the Shree Shree Pitambar Devagoswami Auditorium of the District Library here. The Chief Minister said several welfare measures for all sections of people were initiated and the initiatives included various schemes for tea workers� community.
He asked the Tea Morcha members to visit over 10.5 lakh tea workers� families across the State and interact with them regarding availing of the welfare schemes undertaken by the government.
He urged the workers to find out the shortcomings if any regarding the implementation of the schemes.
Reiterating his government�s commitment to uplift the social and economic conditions of the tea workers� community, the Chief Minister, while taking a dig at the Congress party, said though the Congress remained in power most of the time after the Independence, the tea tribes were left neglected.
�Our government has been taking initiatives and will continue to do so in order to ensure a better and dignified life for tea workers� community who has immensely contributed towards development and progress of Assam,� Sonowal observed.
He pointed out that his government started observing Shramik Kaylan Divas in recognition of the remarkable services of notable tea community leader and social worker Santosh Kumar Topno since 2017.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need for maintaining unity and harmony among the people cutting across the Barak and Brahmaputra valleys.
Ranjeet Kumar Dass was among the leaders who attended the meeting.
New building inaugurated: Chief Minister Sonowal on Thursday inaugurated the newly-established building of the Small Tea Growers� Training and Research Centre at Tocklai Tea Research Institute (Under Tea Research Association) at Cinnamara here.
The function was attended by Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Rameshwar Teli, State Legislative Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami, State Minister for Industries and Commerce Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister of State for Revenue and Disaster Management (Independent Charge) Jogen Mohan and Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa and a host of dignitaries and scientists from Tocklai.
