Gossaigaon ASS unit yet to receive ballot papers

By ANN Service

GOSSAIGAON, Nov 20 - For the third time in a row, the Gossaigaon unit of the Asam Sahitya Sabha (ASS) has not yet received ballot papers for the ensuing elections for the post of the president, vice-president and the general secretary of the literary body.

It may be mentioned that the filled-up ballot papers must reach the Jorhat head office within December 4. But the ballot papers have not as yet been received by the Gossaigaon branch. It may be mentioned here that the Kokrajhar district committee has received ballot papers sent in the name of the Gossaigaon unit, but it has not forwarded the same to the latter, for reasons best known to itself.

In a meeting held recently at the Gossaigaon branch office, under the presidentship of Aswini Sarma, the executive meeting urged the Central Committee to look into the affairs of the Kokrajhar unit. The meeting also requested the president and the secretary to make arrangements for taking the necessary steps, so that this time they do not miss the votes. The Gossaigaon unit was formed in 1963 when Late Amrit Lal Basumatary and Bhabani Prasad Adhikary took over the reins of the president and the secretary respectively. The Gossaigaon unit enjoys the prestigious Swarna Dal branch tag, informed Sankar Ch Das, secretary, Gossaigaon unit.
