Gorkhas demand candidature in 15 State LACs

GUWAHATI, Nov 29 - The All Assam Gorkha Students� Union (AAGSU) has demanded candidature for members of the Gorkha community in 15 Gorkha-dominated Legislative Assembly constituencies of the State. The AAGSU said that any political party endorsing its demand for Gorkha Autonomus Council (GAC) in Assam will get support from the community in the coming Assembly election in the State.

�Any political party that gives Gorkha candidature in Margheritha, Digboi, Sadiya, Sootea, Nawboicha, Bihali, Borsola, Mazbat, Tamulpur, Sarupathar, Duliajan, Tezpur, Tingkhang, Rangapara, and Gohpur constituencies will get support from AAGSU and the Gorkhas of the State. Besides the Gorkha-dominated constituencies, 35 lakh scattered Gorkhas are the deciding factor in 65 constituencies of the State and AAGSU will take a stand in this election for Gorkha Autonomus Council. Gorkhas previously had two cabinet ministers and four MLAs in the Assam Legislative Assembly and currently have two MLAs and one Parliamentary Secretary,� said AAGSU president Prem Tamang.
