MUSHALPUR, Oct 26 � The Gorkha community in Baksa district celebrated its main festival Dashain along with Durga Puja with religious fervour and traditional spirit. The celebration started with Navaratri and continued till Vijaya Dashami.
Navaratri started with ghata sthapana, sailputri pujan and Durga Sapta Sati path and was marked by Brahamcharini puja, Chandraghanta puja, Kushmanda as well as Puspamala puja, Katyayani Puja pratima sthapan, Bel Baran, Kalratri puja, Mahagouri puja, Siddhi Datri puja, hom jajna, Kanya Kumari bhojan, Aparajita puja, kirtan bhajan, mass puspanjali, partaking of prasad and immersion of Devi idol.
Cultural programmes like drama show, traditional singing and dance competitions were organised at Bhutankhuti, Dhansripur, Nikashi, Hastinapur/Pub Nikashi, Khairnai, Bholajhar areas, Nagrijuli areas and Barapeta under Baksa district. Besides, cultural quiz competition was organised at Hastinapur for cultural awareness of the student community.
Large community swings called Linge Ping were erected at various places where young and old alike enjoyed the thrill of high swinging. Community feasts were also organised at various places. On Vijaya Dashami the elders put raw rice mixed with curd and red colour on the forehead of the young and blessed them. Gifts and sweets were exchanged.
It is noted that the people of the Gorkha community visit their relatives on this occasion till Laxmi Purnima. Meanwhile Durga Puja was also celebrated with great religious fervour at Mushlpur, Barbari, Doomuni, Natun Sripur Devalaya, Puran Sripur Devalaya and various places in Mushalpur subdivision.
