Good waste project flagged off at Kendriya Vidyalaya

By The Assam Tribune

GUWAHATI, Sept 14 - An ambitious project named Good waste was flagged off at Kendriya Vidyalaya Khanapara on Friday, said a press release issued here today.

The project deals with developing identified areas into beautiful, garbage-free, minimalised-plastic, green zones through implementation of waste segregation and in house composting.

According to coordinator for the project Debangshu Deb, students, teachers and staff are guided to segregate the waste at source so that recyclable material can make its way to recycling plants and the wet compostable waste is converted into manure at the school itself.

This will be a zero-cost programme under which students, with available resources in the school, have arranged different coloured bins. The project is mentored free of cost by Earthful Foundation, an NGO based in Guwahati.

During the opening ceremony, the delegates from Earthful Foundation arranged a technical session for the students from classes III to XII as well as the staff and teachers of the school.

The technical sessions were attended by Shweta Mahanta, Kinkini Choudhury, Simi Batra, Kunal Sharma, Ikram Hussain and Amrita Barua. They also inspected different areas of the school and gave valuable suggestions for better implementation of the project.
