SILCHAR, Jan 20 - Meanwhile, the cycle rally organised by the Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) as a part of Saksham Cycle Day witnessed good response as over hundred cyclists participated in the 5-kilometre-long green ride on Sunday at Silchar.
Along with 199 other cities of the country, NRL organised the event at the Police Parade ground to promote the slogan �Indhan Adhik Na Khapayen, Aao Paryavaran Bhachayen� to echo messages of fuel conservation along with instilling habits of better health and environment. The rally was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Barnali Sarma as the participants went around Cachar College, Madhuramukh, Rongpur Ground before finally coming back to the starting point.
Enthusing the participants, Barnali Sarma said, �We must realise the importance of maintaining better health and also the need to conserve petroleum.� She urged the youths to take forward the noble initiative under Saksham on a sustainable basis for realising its greater benefits.
In his welcome speech, B Ekka, senior CGM (Marketing and Business Development), NRL, briefed the gathering about SAKSHAM 2020 campaign and initiatives taken by the NRL. SP Cachar Manabendra Dev Ray, BJP Cachar district general secretary Kanad Purakayastha along with BJP�s Silchar Town Mandal president Deepayan Chakraborty, District Sports Association president Babul Hore attended the inaugural event of the rally.
Madhuchanda Adhikari, DGM Corporate Communication at NRL informed that the event has been augmented by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) with the help of Public Sector Oil and Gas companies under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG), Government of India. She added that the objective of this campaign is to sensitise the masses about the conservation and efficient use of petroleum products for better health and environment. �As a part of this month-long campaign, NRL will organise a walkathon in Silchar on February 2, 2020 to create awareness on the benefits of conservation of petroleum products,� Adhikari informed.
