GoM seeks feedback from DCs concerned

GUWAHATI, Feb 21 � The Group of Ministers (GoM) of the State which is looking into the demands for creation of new districts and sub-divisions, today asked the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) concerned to send all the related information on the new districts and sub-divisions demanded by the people in various parts of the State.

GoM chairman, Revenue Minister Prithibi Majhi told this newspaper that the DCs concerned have been asked to send all the relevant information � like size of population, area, police stations, circle offices and all other relevant information in regard to creation of the new districts and sub-divisions.

It needs mention here that the GoM is examining the demands for creation of six new districts and 48 new sub-divisions it has received from various parts of the State.

Minister Majhi said that the number of the new districts and sub-divisions may go up or down, subject to fulfilment of the requirements. A concrete decision on the issue will take time, he said.

Settlement in city: The GoM chairman also told this newspaper that the Government is averse to the idea of granting settlement in city forestland and wetland areas.

There is a Government of India (GoI) policy to keep the forestland and wetland areas free from human settlements, he said, adding, �We cannot touch forest and wetland areas. We are to think for the future, our posterity. We are to take the climate change phenomenon into consideration seriously. �
