NAGAON, June 14 � The Assam Tribune Group � one of the most reputed newspaper houses of the north-eastern region is celebrating the golden jubilee of its Assamese daily, the Dainik Asam this year. As a part of the celebrations, a number of functions will be organised in different places of the State. The first function of this initiative was held at the Swahid Bhawan here on June 13.
Well-known poet, media person and educationist Abhoy Borooah presided over the function. Delivering his speech as the appointed speaker, litterateur-educationist Pradip Saikia discussed the role of Dainik Asam in the field of journalism in the State. He gave a detailed description of all the editors of the paper from Kirtinath Hazarika to Radhika Mohan Bhagawati.
The strength of journalism is the strength of democracy, Saikia said and that was why he hoped that Dainik Asam would play a positive role in strengthening the fourth pillar of democracy. He called upon the Dainik Asam family to work in the interest of the Assamese people.
Litterateur Upendra Nath Borkotoki, Satriya culture expert Tilak Majumdar, actor Guna Mahanta were felicitated in the function.
Agents of the paper in different parts of the district were also felicitated with gamosas and japis.
Besides a number of eminent personalities of the district, personalities from the house including the executive editor of Dainik Asam Munin Bayan, secretary of the Assam Tribune Employees� Union, Dugdharam Kalita, development officer of Dainik Asam, Pranab Dutta Goswami, circulation managers � Bhaskar Das (Dainik Asam), Joynal Abedin (The Assam Tribune) and Jiten Kalita (Asam Bani) were present in the function.
An art competition among the students was arranged and copies of Lakshminath Bezbaroa�s Burhi Aair Sadhu were distributed among the participants.
