Gold tea fetches record price in auction

GUWAHATI, July 24 - Guwahati tea auction made a record today when a line of gold tea produced by a tea garden in the State sold for Rs 39,001 per kg.

A line of Manohari Gold Tea was knocked down under pan-India online auction system at Rs 39,001 by Contemporary Brokers. It was bought by Sourabh Tea Traders Pvt Ltd of Guwahati for their upcountry buyers in Delhi and Ahmedabad.

According to the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre, this is the highest price any tea has fetched in any auction centre all over the world.

This exclusive gold tea was produced by Manohari Tea Estate situated at Dibrugarh and made by tea expert CK Parashar under the guidance of estate owner Rajan Lohia.

�With inherent quality and special clones of tea bushes and hand plucking of very delicate buds, a lot of effort and dedication is put behind the tea estate for manufacturing such a world class tea which looks like crystals of pure 24 carat gold,� said Lohia.

He said that Manohari Gold will definitely draw attention of the entire world and will help regain the lost glory of the entire tea industry.

�The phenomenal price speaks that quality has no end and tea lovers are ready to pay any price for such innovative and boutique quality tea,� Lohia said.

The owner of Sourabh Tea Traders ML Maheshwari said, �Our customers are always looking for best quality specialty tea. Earlier, we had purchased another line of Donyi Polo Tea Estate specialty tea at Rs 18,801. After seeing this gold leaf, our boutique counter clients were really happy.�

The secretary of Guwahati Tea Auction Buyers� Association Dinesh Bihani said it was a proud moment for Guwahati Tea Auction Centre. The auction centre is giving such a platform where specialty tea makes new records and more demands are seen across India. �This will encourage other quality tea producers to make good quality specialty tea and send it to Guwahati Tea Auction Centre which is now a hub for specialty tea,� he added.
