Golakganj ready to celebrate Durga Puja

GAURIPUR, Sept 22 - Golokganj, a mini town and an important business centre of western Assam and located on the bank of the river Gangadhar is ready to celebrate Durga Puja, the biggest festival of the year with pomp and gaiety.

This year altogether there will be 30 puja mandaps. The Chilarai Nagar Durga Puja Committee will celebrate the silver jubilee year of Durga Puja. The Loknath Mandir Puja Committee fixed a budget of Rs 4 lakh and the pandal will cost Rs 1.50 lakh. The idol of Ma Durga will cost nearly rupees 75,000. The Jatdar family of Golakganj will celebrate Durga Puja in the Purani Durga Mandir located in the heart of the town with all traditional rituals. The Bazar Committee will celebrate the 90-year-old Durga Puja with various programmes. Various competitions will mark the occasion among the Puja revellers.

Meanwhile, the local administration held a public meeting and an immersion committee was formed as immersion takes place on the Ekadashi Tithi here traditionally.

The administration declared three prizes for maintaining discipline during the period of Puja. The committees have also been requested to install CCTV camera on the premises of the Puja pandals, stated circle officer Chayanika Thakuria.
