DERGAON, July 22 - Dearth of adequate doctors at the healthcare institutions of Golaghat has severely affected healthcare services within the district.
Most of the hospitals or mini primary health centres are running without permanent doctors. In the 25 healthcare institutions of the district, a total of 45 sanctioned posts of Medical and Health Officer-I (M&HO-I) are in existence, where most of them are lying vacant.
The Joint Director of Health Services informed that most of them are filled up with doctors from the national health mission (NHM) for one-year service period. At the Swahid Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital (SKKCH) situated in the heart of the district headquarter, 6 posts of M&HO-I out of 12 are lying vacant.
The Superintendent of SKKCH, Dr Uttam Prasad Dutta told The Assam Tribune that due to vacant posts of doctors, the authority had to face serious problem in order to tackle the situation in critical times like the seasonal floods, etc.
�At present, a total of 11 posts of doctors are lying vacant, where six of M&HO-I and others of Senior Medical Officer,� Dutta informed.
At the Swahid Kamala Miri Sub Divisional Hospital, all the four sanctioned posts of M&HO-I are lying vacant. Similarly, Merapani Community Health Centre (CHC), Kohora Model Hospital, Kachamari Model Hospital, Nahordonga Model Hospital, Dergaon Subsidiary Health Centre, Urban Health Officer Golaghat, Bholaguri Mini Primary Health Centre (MPHC), Chinatoly State Dispensary (SD), Sumoni SD, Kuralguri MPHC, Mohuramukh MPHC, Kabrugaon MPHC, Gelabeel MPHC, Kachamari MPHC, Bilgaon MPHC, Naharchala MPHC, Khatgaon MPHC and Bilotia MPHC are running without M&HO-I.
The Joint Director of Health Services Dr Ratul Chandra Bordoloi told this Correspondent that the Govt was informed about the situation.
