GOLAGHAT, March 8 � Anwarul Haque, the newly posted Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat district recently took stock of the prevailing situation in the �A� �B� and �C� sectors along the Assam-Nagaland border.
He visited the �B� sector of Dhansiri sub-division where a Class-X student named Maniruddin was recently shot dead by Naga miscreants.
The DC also met officials of the security forces, besides urging the local residents to exercise utmost restraint even in the face of extreme provocation.
Book released: A book titled Grantha Sannidhar Chobi written by poet Bipul Kumar Borthakur was recently released by Apurba Kumar Barua, senior journalist and Editor of Dhansiri, at the residence of Bipul Kumar Borthakur at Hamdoipool in Golaghat district.
A meeting on the occasion was held under the presidentship of Ashok Das, prominent writer and president of Golaghat district Asomiya Sahitya Sanmilani.
The meeting was addressed by senior journalist Upen Dutta as the chief speaker. He appreciated the literary activities of BK Borthakur. Among others who addressed the meeting included RK Saikia, former Principal of KHS School, NP Das, PK Thakur,Monji Rajkhowa, Bolin Dutta and Md Sultan Ali.
Earlier, B Thakur explained the objective of the meeting. As a part of the programme, Minakshi Thakur presented a song while Utpal Thakur presented a Bhupendra Sangeet. The vote of thanks was subsequently offered by M Thakur.
Fagunor Kabita Abeli: A programme titled Fagunor Kabita Abeli was held at the Sahityacharjya Sayed Abdul Malik Bhawan here on March 1 under the aegis of the Aaikyatan Gusthi, a literary and cultural organisation which was established in 1970.
Self-composed poems mainly on fagun were read out by the poets. The Fagunor Kabita Abeli was inaugurated by famous poet Ronaldu Taid and was conducted by Rebo Kanta Saikia, former Principal of KHSS and poet Baneswar Bora.
Earlier, Monjulika Neog Saikia presented a bhajan while the welcome address was delivered by Upen Dutta, president of Aaikyatan Gusthi.
The poets who read out their self-composed poems included Anindita Kalita (Guwahati), Karabi Mahanta, Snehjonak Dutta Barua, Kamalakshi Dutta, Deephastings Bora, Deepali Bora, Sonadhar Shyam, Kushal Saikia, R Taid, Upen Dutta, B Bora and MN Saikia.
A review on the poems that were read out was presented by Anindita Kalita. The vote of thanks was subsequently offered by vice president Sonadhar Shyam.
Farewell meet: Former Deputy Commissioner Niten Khere was bid farewell by the officers and employees of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner here on March 2 while Md Anwarul Haque took charge.
The employees of the office along with the local people greatly appreciated Niten Khere�s efforts to solve the perennial border problem, besides several other burning issues plauging the district over the years.
A farewell meeting was held under the presidentship of Roheteswar Deori and addressed by Tanuz Goswami, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jitu Kumar Das, election officer, Ditha Kananda Hazarika, Circle Officer of the Revenue Department. The speakers welcomed to newly appointed Deputy Commissioner Anwarul Haque.
Lok Adalat: Along with other places of the country, the Rashtriya Lok Adalat was held in Golaghat district and its sub-divisions too on March 7.
It may be mentioned here that Lok Adalat is held annually for disposing off pending cases which have been lying unresolved for several years.
