JORHAT, March 20 - Along with hundreds of All Assam Students Union (AASU) members, several socially conscious citizens of Golaghat today participated in a sit-in protest in front of the Deputy Commissioners office demanding arrest of Subodh Biswas, the main accused in the Silapathar hate speech incident and subsequent vandalism of AASU office, and who had been evading arrest since the last 15 days following the unsavoury incident in Dhemaji district.

According to the protesters, the Central Government must cancel the ordinance which includes provisions for sheltering illegal migrants in the State on the basis of their religious status.

We will never accept this kind of ordinance which is designed to provide shelter to illegal migrants in our State. The Government must cancel it in the greater interest of Assam, said Anshuman Barua, president of Golaghat regional unit of AASU.

Further, the main accused of the Silapathar incident must be arrested soon, he demanded.

The 30 hour sit-in protest, which was started on Monday morning, will continue till Tuesday afternoon.

Participating in the protest, the assistant general secretary of the central executive committee of AASU, Monowar Hussain demanded the State Government to take necessary action to detect and deport all the illegal migrants from the nook and corner of the State as per the provisions of the Assam Accord.
