GOLAGHAT, May 15 � The ASEB, Golaghat failed to supply electricity to Bengenakhow and Arengapar in Golaghat town recently. The electricity is being provided through a power sub-station situated at Tetelital.
In spite of repeated pleas by the consumers, the ASEB, Golaghat failed to provide power to the customers.
The people of the areas, therefore, launched an agitation programme.
Taking lamps in their hands, they arrived at the ASEB office and gheraoed the office and shouted with slogans.
Elephant depredation: Wild elephants have been causing havoc on the Numaligarh tea garden areas within Golaghat district under the Numaligarh Forest office.
A herd of wild elephants, numbering about 40, damaged dwelling houses of Ahalya Bhumij, Besika Tanti, Sarumai Panikar of 5 and 21 labour lines. The elephants also damaged the houses of Deshanta Tanti, Gunin Das, Lebion Kudas and Jaichandra Saikia of the same garden.
The wild herd of elephants damaged the granary of Suren Gogoi of Bochapathar, Ajoi Neog of Dhodang Gaon and Amal Dutta of Beteni village.
The Forest officials have allegedly failed to drive the elephants away in spite of the rescueses made by the local people.
