Golaghat admin comes forward to help boy

DERGAON, June 10 - The story with the caption �Overcoming all barriers� published in The Assam Tribune in its June 8 issue has caught the eyes of the Golaghat district administration.

The story depicted the struggle of a differently-abled HSLC candidate Shiba Sobor who passed the examination overcoming all barriers viz., physical, financial and geographical.

After going through the story, Golaghat Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bibhash Ch Modi has come forward to do something for the poor fellow. Modi asked the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Lakhimi Dutta to look into the matter and work accordingly.

The ADC informed this correspondent immediately in the morning on June 9 about their response to the news item published in The Assam Tribune and their willingness to help Shiba. The ADC told this correspondent that the administration would arrange financial assistance to the boy as soon as possible.

On a request by this correspondent, the ADC also said that they would also arrange a special shoe for Shiba which was an immediate need to go to his school, about 10 km away from his home, for pursuing the Higher Secondary course.

Regarding the deplorable state of the road to Shiba�s house, the ADC said that the Block Development Officer (BDO) had been asked to take up matter.

On the other hand AASHRAY, a frontline organisation working for environment conservation based at Dergaon assured the boy�s mother Soni Sobor that they will provide a good quality ladies bicycle to so that she can carry Shiba some way to school and also to be used by her for daily wage works at distant places.

AASHRAY�s joint secretary Prasenjit Khound told Shiba�s mother about the organisation�s plan.

Shiba Sobor, a differently abled student of a remote and flood-prone area Naamkhatowal, 25 km from Dergaon under Dergaon Legislative Assembly Constituency passed his first public examination overcoming physical, financial and geographical barriers. He secured 43.32 per cent marks and 83 per cent in Private Security NSQF elective subject.

Arun Dutta, the Supervisory Assistant of DKD College Dergaon welcomed the willingness of district administration to help the student.

The director of Kaziranga National Park P Sivakumar praised The Assam Tribune for publishing the news. The Golaghat SP, Pushpraj Singh also expressed his satisfaction over the news published. The Principal of Kakodonga HSS, Jyoti Hazarika also expressed her satisfaction over the initiative of the district administration.
