Gohpur boy swims 450 metres in 3.15 minutes

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Aug 13 - A five-year-old child from Gohpur in Biswanath district has recently come to limelight as he swam 450 metre distance in just 3.15 minutes. According to information received here, Veer Pratap Pegu, son of Nijumani Pegu and Jilikanta Pegu, a farmer by profession of no. 2 Chakala Rajabari village under Gohpur subdivision, managed to cover that distance in a local river.

A Kindergarten student of Rajabari Little Star School, the boy started swimming at the age of three in a nearby river called Mornoi and since then, it has been going on.

One Diganta Kaman, a local youth, came to know about the child�s talents and he arranged a test for Veer Pratap in which he successfully achieved the said feat. His father said that he wanted his son to become a swimmer, but they faced lots of problems as there is neither any swimming facility nor any coach at Gohpur to train his son with the right direction. The parents have sought government�s help in this respect.
