Gohain inspects Bongaigaon workshop

BONGAIGAON, March 2 - Minister of State for Railway Rajen Gohain visited the carriage and wagon workshop at New Bongaigaon today to have a basic idea of the plant before placing a demand before the Centre to set a coach factory in it.

The Minister reached New Bongaigaon Railway station by a special train at 12.07 pm today and interacted with its Chief Manager DS Kunwar and other officials.

Leaders of Purvanchaliya Rail Karmi Parishad, NF Railway Employees� Union, NF Railway Mazdoor Union also extended their cooperation in his visit.

Gohain also had a meeting with the union leaders, activists of student groups and apolitical organizations at New Bongaigaon. Addressing the meeting, Gohain said since the workshop has enough space for its further development, so he would propose before the Centre to set up a coach factory in the workshop.

The Minister also spoke on the projects undertaken by his government in railway sector and said that initiative has been taken to improve rail communication in Lower and Upper Assam.

Various organisations submitted memoranda to the Minister seeking employment opportunities in the workshop and its development by opening coach and other downstream units in the plant.
