Gogoi�s death saddens people, VIPs alike

GUWAHATI, Nov 23 - Family, friends, politicians, government officials were seen making a beeline to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) since the morning to take stock of the health status of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi who was undergoing treatment at the hospital. He passed away later in the evening.

GMCH Superintendent Abhijit Sharma informed the media that favourite musical pieces of Tarun Gogoi and the speeches of Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi were being played to soothe his mind and help him in recovery from the morning.

Political figures belonging to different parties including Rakibul Hussain, Pradyut Bordoloi, Bhumidhar Barman, Chandra Mohan Patowary, Brindaban Goswami, Bijoya Chakrabarty, Rana Goswami, Badruddin Ajmal and many more rushed to the hospital along the day to be on the side of Tarun Gogoi and his family as his health started deteriorating.

Earlier in the day, Badruddin Ajmal who could be seen wailing while talking to the media said, �We had been praying for his recovery. He had spoken to me last month when I met him at the hospital. He asked about me and my family.�

In the morning, State�s Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reached the hospital along with his family.

Prayer programmes were organised by people across the State seeking the Almighty�s blessing for his recovery.

After the announcement of his demise by Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma this evening, people were saddened and they prayed for peace of his soul.

A resident from the Titabor constituency, Ajit Gogoi whose daughter has been undergoing treatment at the hospital said that he was shattered after learning about Gogoi�s death.

�I had been visiting the ICU from last three days to take stock of the health situation of the former Chief Minister�, Gogoi said.
