Gogois charge baseless, says AIUDF

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 31 - Refuting Chief Minister Tarun Gogois charge about tacit understanding between the BJP and AIUDF, the Badruddin Ajmal-led party has termed the accusations as baseless and politically motivated.

AIUDF general secretary and MLA Hafiz Bashir Ahmed Kasimi said the Congress is fast losing its popular base, especially among the minority segments, on account of the grand old partys corruption and mismanagement. It has become worried about the AIUDFs rapid expansion and growing popularity among the masses, he said.

The Congress has been making a concerted effort to hurt the popularity of the AIUDF by calling us communal since the inception of our party. But the Congress seems to have forgotten about the maturity of the common voters. By making such baseless statements, the Congress will never be able to gain any political mileage, Kasimi said.

Reiterating that the AIUDF has maintained equidistance from both the Congress and the BJP since its inception, Kasimi said that the party is still adhering to that practice. There is no question of aligning with communal forces like the BJP and RSS, Kasimi said.

Gogoi had earlier this week accused the BJP and the AIUDF of having a tacit understanding. Both the BJP and the AIUDF criticise us, but refrain from attacking each other. As both the BJP and AIUDF are communal parties, their relations are good. We oppose their communal agenda, he had said at a press meet.
