Gogoi welcomes new projects in NE

GUWAHATI, Feb 24 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has expressed his gratitude to Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee for a plethora of new projects and trains her budget has offered to Assam and the NE region.

An official press release said here that the Chief Minister has lauded Banerjee for setting up the Trans-Asian Railway network. It would go a long way in providing a shorter rail route between West Bengal and the North Eastern region of the country via Bangladesh, said the Chief Minister.

He thanked the Railway Minister for considering his proposal by taking up surveys between Jogighopa and Guwahati via Barpeta, Sarthebari via North Lakhimpur �Along-Silapathar and double track surveys for Guwahati-Lumding-Tinsukia-Dibrugarh route, besides electrification of the New Bongaigaon-Jogighopa-Kamakhya route.

The Chief Minister also lauded the proposal mooted by the Railway Minister for taking up the socially desirable rail connectivity for Lekhapani-Kharsang, Barpeta Road-Tihu, Murkongselek-Passighat, Naginimora-Amguri, Rangpo-Gangtok, Rupai- Parashuramkund via Mahadevpur, Namsai, Chingkham, Salna-Khumtai, Sarthbari-Changsari, Jogighopa to Silchar via Pancharatna.

The proposal to introduce the Karmabhoomi train between Guwahati and Mumbai (weekly) via Howrah-Tatanagar-Jharsuguda-Bilaspur-Nagpur has also been hailed by the Chief Minister.

He also thanked the Railway Minister for her proposal to take up construction of the multi-functional complexes in the coming years at Agartala, Dibrugarh and Dimapur, besides the outpatient departments (OPDs) and diagnostic centres at Agartala, Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh, Dimapur, Diphu, Itanagar, Kokrajhar, Lumding, New Alipurduar, New Bongaigaon, Rangapara North, Rangiya, Rani, Silchar, Tinsukia, secondary level general speciality hospitals at Guwahati and New Bongaigaon, Rangapara and tertiary level multispeciality hospitals at Guwahati, New Bongaigaon and Rangapara North.
