By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 5 - Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has called upon the government to ensure that the health sector staff, who are in the forefront of the efforts to prevent the spread of coronavirus pandemic are equipped with the best safety and protective equipment kits.

All of us are part of the united fight against COVID-19 which the government is waging. In this battle, the duties and responsibilities of the Government of India are no less than the duties and responsibilities of the citizens. People of India have extended full support and cooperation to the Prime Minister and the government. But if we are to win this battle against COVID-19, then we have to ensure the safety of the health sector staff, including doctors, nurses and ASHA workers. The government has to provide the best safety kits to such staff and workers so that they themselves do not fall prey to COVID-19, he said. He claimed that the existing testing facilities in the State for COVID-19 are inadequate.

Gogoi said daily wage earners, small traders, self-employed persons and other vulnerable sections have faced severe income loss due to the lockdown.
