Gogoi seeks Centres nod for tableau display

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 22 - Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has requested Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar to provide the State with the opportunity to display its tableau in the forthcoming Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi.

In a letter to the Union Defence Minister today, the Chief Minister said the presence of an Assam tableau in the Republic Day parade will help enhance patriotism amongst the people of the State and instil a nationalistic feeling among the regions misguided youth.

The Chief Minister welcomed the decision of the Expert Committee for Selection of Tableau for selecting the design showcasing the Bihu dance. We welcome the decision of the Expert Committee, as the beautiful Bihu dance not only symbolises the vibrant and pulsating cultural heritage of the State, but also represents the spirit of Assam and the composite nature of our diverse culture, he said.

It may be mentioned that the Government of Assam had submitted four designs for the State tableau, out of which the design showcasing the Bihu dance was shortlisted by the Expert Committee for Selection of Tableau.

The Chief Minister pointed out that the portrayal of Assams rich cultural ethos at the parade through the Bihu dance would go a long way in fostering feelings of national integration and solidarity in Assam, which is known as a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual and multi-cultural State, said an official press release here this evening.
