GUWAHATI, June 15 � Accepting that waste management by civic authorities of the city is not up-to-the-mark, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said �increase of waste is a sign of prosperity and high standard of living�.
Addressing a press conference here to express his optimism about Congress victory in the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) election next week, he said the authorities have done well under his party�s leadership.
�Increase of waste material is a sign of prosperity and high standard of living. See in America, you will find lots of waste,� Gogoi said in a humorous tone.
Economic condition of people in the city has improved and they are consuming products in a way leading to generation of lot of waste materials, he added.
But waste management is not up-to-the-mark, he said and urged the public to vote for his party in the GMC elections on June 19. � PTI
