Gogoi plea for release of Central funds

GUWAHATI, April 3 - Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clear the outstanding dues to the State so that the wheels of development can move on.

In a statement here today, Gogoi said that he would urge the Prime Minister to release the funds and the arrears so that the momentum of development picks up. �The Centre is yet to release funds for some Centrally-sponsored schemes and flagship programmes as well as for flood and erosion. I urge the Prime Minister as well as the Union Finance Minister to release the funds and the outstanding arrears due to the State so that development activities pick up in the State,� he said.

The Chief Minister urged Governor PB Acharya to apprise the Central Government of the delay in releasing funds and arrears due to the State. �Being the constitutional head of the State, the Governor must take up the matter in right earnest at the appropriate level so that the State is not deprived of its rightful and legitimate dues and that the development process goes on uninterrupted,� he added.

Meanwhile, Gogoi also directed Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia to clear the dues to the contractors as early as possible.
