Gogoi meets Sonia Gandhi

NEW DELHI, June 16 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today held a 25-minute meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi to discuss the ongoing political crisis in the State. The meeting was also attended by Ahmed Patel, her political adviser. Gogoi however evaded the media.

Congress chief Sonia Gandhi has endorsed the compromise formula worked out by the All India Congress Committee in consultation with Chief Minister Gogoi.

The Chief Minister is now likely to effect a reshuffle in his Council of Ministers at an early date. AICC sources said that the CM had a detailed discussion with Gandhi regarding the problems he had been facing. He also sought a free hand from the Congress president in tackling the issue connected with the ongoing political turmoil in the State.

As reported by this newspaper, AICC observer Ghulam Navi Azad and AICC incharge for Assam Dr CP Joshi has worked out a compromise formula by which Gogoi will rejig his Council of Ministers keeping equal the number of MLAs from each camp. The formula is likely to end the tussle between the Gogoi loyalists and the dissidents led by Himanta Biswa Sarma.
