NEW DELHI, Aug 2 While reposing confidence on Chief Minister Tarun Gogois leadership, a group of loyalists led by Anjan Dutta on Friday sought Congress president Sonia Gandhis intervention, urging her to rein in senior party-men, who are allegedly fanning trouble in the party.

The group of loyalists, waiting for over a week for an appointment with the Congress chief, finally heaved a sigh of relief, when they got a call from 10 Janpath, this morning. The 11-member delegation included Vivekananda Doloi, Monika Bora, Bismita Gogoi, Arun Phukan, Arati Kachari, Susanta Borgohain, Debabrata Saikia, GC Langthasa, Joonjoonali Barua, Klengdon Engti, besides Dutta.

A visibly elated leader of the group, Dutta told newsmen that they were satisfied with their 45-minute-long meeting with the Congress president. We have handed over the same memorandum we submitted to the Prime Minister detailing the development issues, the threats from erosion and floods, besides reiterating the demand for constitution of a legislative council in the State, he said.

Pressed further, he admitted that some political discussions also took place but declined to divulge details. We have mentioned about growing indiscipline in the party and the threats posed by the dissident group. If the indiscipline can be arrested at this stage then the Congress party in Assam has a chance to wrest all the 14 Lok Sabha seats in 2014, he claimed.

Calling for strengthening the Chief Ministers hands, Dutta told this newspaper that they have specifically informed the party president about the role of a section of senior leaders of the party. Some senior leaders have been fanning trouble in the party confusing the grass root workers. This has led to resentment among party-men, he said.
