JORHAT, Dec 2 - Inaugurating the yet-to-be completed Sukapha Samannay Kshetra at Mohbondha area of Jorhat today, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that the mega-cultural project would be a centre of attraction for the students and researchers of the country as well as South-East Asian nations.
Being constructed in recognition of the 600 glorious years of Ahom Rule in the State, the project was designed to be one of the major attractions for visitors from across the country and abroad who are interested to know the political, social, cultural and religious heritage of the State. Besides, it is expected to showcase the history of assimilation of various people belonging to different castes, creeds and ethnic-identities of the State.
The Ahom king Sukapha could successfully unite the locals of various castes, tribes and religions through his majestic spectre since 1228 in the State, the Chief Minister said and added that the great king would be remembered as a role-model for �unity in diversity�.
�We remain awed by his administrative capability to unite the people of various cultures, religions, casts and creeds. This Sukapha Samannay Kshetra will inspire all of us to be united for the progress of the State,� said Gogoi.
Though several works are yet to be completed in the cultural-complex, the well-designed gate, charismatic statue of the great king and a few other items in the art-gallery have already caught attention of the visitors today.
�We are yet to complete many important works. Besides, personnel for ticketing, guidance and monitoring are also yet to be employed. It will take some time before the complex could be officially opened for the visitors,� said a district administration official.
