NEW DELHI, April 25 - The Tarun Gogoi Government has during the last three years submitted 45 proposals to the Tribal Affairs Ministry for grant of ST status.

However, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram in a Lok Sabha reply said that no proposal has been received according to extant modality to exclude any community from the list of STs from the State Government.

The Assam Governments proposal for grant of ST status include Koch Rajbongshi, Tai Ahom, Moran, Chutia, Amri-Karbi, Karbi-Mikir, Bodo Kachari, 36 tea tribe communities, change of name from Miri to Mising.

In the meantime, the Arunachal Pradesh Government has submitted a proposal for inclusion of six tribes in the ST list, including Yobin, besides deletion of the word any Naga tribe and replace with Wancho, Nocte, Tangsa, Tutsa and Ollo.

The issue of grant of ST status to the six communities has been rocking the State, with the Centre also sending conflicting signals. It is among the primary demands of the pro-talk faction of ULFA, which is engaged in negotiations with the Government of India.
