GUWAHATI, June 2 � The Assam Government has distributed 40,809 power tillers, 9,644 tractors and 3,81,670 pump sets among farmers during the last 14 years, an official release stated.
On the other hand, 1,552 rotary power tillers were distributed among women farmers. In the last four years, rice production has registered a record output of 55.33 lakh metric tons. Steps taken by the State Government during this period for farm mechanisation have led to the increase in the farm output up to the extent of 82 lakh metric tons.
It may be mentioned here that Assam won the Krishi Karman Award for four years in a row owing to the production of rice and pulses. Apart from this, the State�s Agricultural Department, along with Irrigation, Soil Conservation and Rural Development departments, have taken steps to come up with a novel scheme in the agricultural sector named �Mukhyamantrir Gramya Arthaniti Scheme,� the release added.
